About the Wave Rider

The Living Arts Wave Rider is designed to provide easy-access items in a personalized kit to use when emotions are intense, painful and/or overwhelming. The My User Guide walks through a helpful approach to wave riding with research based methods to regulate emotional states and prompts to document personalized strategies that work.

The Wave Rider Instructions

Your Wave Rider is designed to be personalized. When you are ready, take the time to complete the My User Guide section called “Notes to Future Self.” The next step is to add items that you feel will be helpful when you are experiencing intense feelings that may be uncomfortable or painful. Consider attaching a picture of something or someone that serves to ground you on the inside cover. Add special treat or tea to savor to help change gears. Some add meaningful objects, personal scents, fidget toys, bubbles, spa salts and/or special incense.

Rather than walking to the freezer to grab the ice cream, or doing something else you may later regret, start with the Wave Rider and refer to My User Guide for next steps. The Wave Rider contains aromatherapy candles and some handy matches. Please be safe and snuff the flame before leaving the room, falling asleep or replacing the cover. The Bead Bag can be kept in the freezer to use for limbic system calming or for mindful grounding. Scan the Mantra Cards and choose a few that resonant with you and are helpful for the current moment. The color gel pens are to use with both the Color to Calm and Write it Out booklets. Freely use the Joy essential oil inhaler. The Box Breathwork Beads can be used by slipping the ring over a finger of one hand and using a light grasp with the other, slowly slide down towards the end. Inhale for 4 counts over the first large beads, hold for 4 over the small beads, exhale for 4 over the next large beads then hold for 4 over the remaining small beads. Repeat 3+ times.
